Now at last we have tried and tested solutions to our serious
congestion and air quality problems in Canterbury !
They are contained in the Sustainable
Transport Blueprint written
specifically for the city by Dr Lynn Sloman, one of the country's leading experts
in sustainable transport. It will be launched on Thursday, 14thFebruary.
Dr Sloman will be giving two presentations of the Blueprint to councillors,
business leaders and other invited guests in the Abode Hotel during the morning
and afternoon. At the end of each
meeting, special Valentine’s cards designed
by member Elaine Godden will be presented to attendees.
Between 12pm and 2pm there will be celebrations around the Westgate Towers organised by CAST (Canterbury Alliance
for Sustainable Transport). Dr
Sloman and Green South East
MEP, Keith Taylor, will be
giving speeches. There will be stalls and music, including
some big local names kindly coordinated by Ivan Thompson (Hullaballoo, Hail
Bop, Jazz Police), Brendan Power, Adrian Brown, James Evans, Robert Jarvis and
Alan King − all powered by Wheely Groovy (green pedal power).
Courtesy of
Stagecoach, the focal point
and information hub will be a bus parked by the Towers. CAST personnel
will be available to answer people’s questions about sustainable transport and
hand out flyers.
The key
event is at 12.30pm: we will be forming a human heart around the Towers to show
our love for Canterbury .
Please let me know if you can come along dressed in red to be part of the heart
- we need to make it as big as we can! It will only take a few minutes and your
participation will be much appreciated.
