2012 Local Elections

Once again The Green Party made steady gains  all over the country with more people than ever supporting the cause. The increased vote secured another 11 Councillors across the country giving a total of 40 Councillors. An increase of 37.9%. One of our sister groups in Maidstone were campaigning hard for a seat in a tight four way fight. Although  we gained more votes than ever before in the area we just fell short. Our commiserations to Stuart Jeffrey and his team.

BBC have run a story here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17950083

Hi All,

Firstly a huge thank you to everyone who helped in anyway with this year's elections. They really showed that we can punch well above our weight!

Sadly we missed Fant ward by just 168 votes but we recorded our best ever result there (23.1%). Labour pulled out the stops in the ward with a team of around 30 people on election day to bully people into voting (I had a numerous complaints about their behaviour), however they still didn't win either.

Nationally we have gained seats from the conservatives but the count is still going on so I will update when the full story emerges.

Our local vote share was significantly up on last year with some great results across the borough:

Bearsted    9.7% (beat LD)
Boxley    10.9%
Bridge    11.8%
Coxheath    5.7%
East    15.6%
Fant    23.1% (beat LD)
Headcorn    29.4%
Heath    5.5%
High St    7.3%
Marden    11.2% (beat LD)
North Downs    9.3%
Shepway North    10.5% (beat NF)

Onwards and upwards!

Kind regards

Stuart
